- KRUMMHöRN 08.09.2021 Greetsiel; Seit 1991 bildet das Sperrwerk Leysiel mit Siel und Schleuse das Abschlussbauwerk der Deichnase "Leyhörn", dem Kernstück der Küstenschutzmaßnahme Leybucht. Das 30 Meter breite Siel unterstützt die Entwässerungsfunktion der Anlagen in Greetsiel und Leybuchtsiel. Der Binnendeichs gelegene 200 Hektar große Speichersee dient sowohl der Aufnahme des durch die Siele abfließenden Wassers als auch als Stauraum, wenn im Falle mehrtägiger Sturmfluten das Binnenwasser über Schöpfwerke hineingepumpt wird.
